Welcome to Open House!

First, thank you for coming!

A little about the Science program here. We use FOSS for our curriculum, which includes textbooks as well as well planned science activities and kits with the materials we need. The central theory of FOSS kits is that hands on is the best way to learn science. Many experiments are revisited in other experiments, and the text references the experiments we do, making it more relevant for the students.

In addition to FOSS, we are in our second year of the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grant. This grant paid for equipment (a lab of 10 laptops, an LCD projector, and a document camera), support positions, and professional development. My classes have been using the laptops to make vocab Power Points, podcasts, and even science review videos! I made a presentation to the school board on January 14th this year if you are interested in learning more.

What's going on?!

The human body videos we saw were pretty interesting. In the comments, tell everyone your favorite part. Also, you can ask any questions you still have and I will respond!

My favorite part was when they interviewed real life scientists. It's cool to see other people's jobs!

Welcome Back!

... And happy 2009. I am excited to get back to school, and get back to experiments!

I want to remind everyone that I always welcome comments, but I ask that you remember this is an educational blog and that I will reject your comment (not post it) if it's not appropriate for others.

Last, but not least, we watched Finding Nemo and I wanted to share FindingNemo.com
which has some fun games based on the movie, and also has some great facts about coral reefs and the fish in the movie. Enjoy!

Parent Teacher Conferences

I want to welcome all the families to my site - students have come into class telling me they have been playing science games at home! One student even told me her mom really liked my site. So I wanted to give everyone a warm welcome, and keep this site bookmarked for more great science websites to come!

Best,
Ms. Green
